New Horizon Youth Centre Launch

February 24th, 2010

Centre-Launch

New Horizon Youth Centre’s new building  was officially opened by Sarah Brown yesterday. Other speakers at the launch were MP’s Frank Dobson and Vernon Coaker, Mr Bobby McDonagh, the Irish Ambassador, Comedian Rory Bremner and our very own Jon Snow!

The launch began with young people giving guests tours of their new building and culminated in an unveiling of our supporter’s plaque by Sarah Brown, who was helped by Fitsum – a young person from the centre who was an apprentice on our re-build site.

Sarah Brown then joined in a creative art workshop with young people. Sarah later tweeted  ‘what a great space for those who need support’.

Thank you to everyone who attended the launch and helped to make it a very special day for New Horizon Youth Centre.

Youth-Apprentice

Young people from the centre have been involved from the outset in the development and design of our new building. This has culminated in young people securing apprenticeships and work placements on the new build site.

Fitsum (one of our young people) has been working on the electrical installation at the site. Thank you to JONAP (the contractors) for giving him this opportunity and well done to Fitsum for his hard work and commitment.

Renovation work at our permanent site, 68 Chalton St, continues. The work will turn New Horizon Youth Centre into a state of the art—fit for purpose centre, with improved ICT, Sports, Kitchen and washing facilities.

This picture shows work being done on our new second-floor performance space: The Barn. The Barn will be used for music, drama, dance and sports work. We will remain in our temporary premises at the Somers Town Youth Centre at 138 Chalton St, until January 2010.
