New Horizon Youth Centre was a finalist in the Community Partner’s 2011 Dragon Awards. Our partnership with Buzzacott Accountants focuses on giving young homeless people a real opportunity to secure employment in the corporate sector and readiness for work training. New Horizon also receives coaching in marketing skills from Buzzacott staff – helping to generate additional revenue for the Centre.

We have been delighted to continue our beautiful partnership with The University of the Arts, London’s Widening Participation Programme. In July, young people from the centre attended a set of four Jewellery design workshops led by Helmert Robbertsen and the widening participation team at the University. The young people were taught about the design process and developing their own jewellery blueprints. They were then given the unique opportunity to take these designs to the next stage – making their own pieces on site at Central St Martin’s. A range of dazzling designs were created using plastics. Young people were
instructed and learnt quickly how to use different techniques to create something really special! The winning design was created by Giovanna for her spectacular ‘blue ice’ pieces. Well done everyone for all of your hard work and THANK YOU! to Helmert, Holly, Tessa, Berni and Jackie for this fantastic project! Check out the bliiiing!

Over a 1000 supporters turned up for what was a fantastic evening of comedy and fun including performances from the New Horizon Choir, Jon Snow and Mara Carlyle. Jon Snow stole the show and the auction when prompted by the audience, he took his socks off and auctioned them along with his ties. The lucky recipient was Dara O’Briain who paid an inordinate amount for these prized items.
Jon Snow’s socks have made it into Friday 22nd Telegraph. Page 8, you can read this online here:

NHYC is celebrating Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June) in recognition of the tremendous contribution that all volunteers, past and present, make to the work of the organisation and the lives of the young people. It wouldn’t be the same without you! BIG THANKS!

NHYC young people contribute their artistic designs for the new medical centre being built beside the British Library at Kings Cross. This art work will form part of a mural which is going around the outside of the site whilst it is being built. Young people’s art work will be enlarged to over 6ft high and wide and will have their names on the mural. A big thank you to St. Pancras Community Centre who organised the workshop.
