New Horizon wins FA award

On Thursday 27th October, the London branch of the Football Association (FA) held their Grassroots Football award ceremony at Stamford Bridge – home of Chelsea FC. Alex Eagle – our Sports & Mens Worker picked up the award for ‘Inclusion Partner of the year’ in acknowledgement of his efforts in encouraging those from a highly disadvantaged background to get involved with Football in London. Well Done Alex.

Finalist: 2011 Lord Mayor’s Dragon Award

New Horizon Youth Centre was a finalist in the Community Partner’s 2011 Dragon Awards. Our partnership with Buzzacott Accountants focuses on giving young homeless people a real opportunity to secure employment in the corporate sector and readiness for work training. New Horizon also receives coaching in marketing skills from Buzzacott staff – helping to generate additional revenue for the Centre.

Investors in People Standard renewed with flying colours!

IIP logoWe were delighted that the IiP Standard was renewed in April 2011. Congratulations to all concerned!

In the words of our assessor on the day:

‘Not only were the core requirements of the Standard met, but also the additional six evidence requirements selected from the wider framework in relation to social responsibility.

The whole organisation could be held up as a good practice model of an Investor in People and senior managers have agreed they would be happy to be contacted as a potential case study’.

Creating-posotive-Futures-Work-Programme

At a ceremony in St Martin-in-the-Fields on 22/10/2010 Steve Bullock, chair of the London Councils, presented New Horizon Youth Centre’s ‘Creating Positive Futures works Programme’, with the prestigious Andy Ludlow Homelessness Award and a cheque for £10,000.

The Creating Positive Futures Work Programme started in October 2009.  It enables young homeless people attending the Centre in Camden to access education, employment and training opportunities, by providing accredited courses on using the internet, securing job placements or helping them complete CVs.

This innovative project has secured the support of companies such as Olympus, Buzzacott and Sainsbury’s to enable young vulnerable people to secure work placements and employment.

AQA Award’s Ceremony

Local councillors Peter Brayshaw and Samata Khatoon together with Shayla Walmsley, a trustee of New Horizon Youth Centre, presented the centre’s clients with accredited certificates at an award ceremony on 10th July 2010.

Peter Brayshaw said ‘We are delighted to recognise the hard work achieved by the young people at New Horizon Youth Centre, we hope that they continue to move onto positive and independent futures.’

Celebrating Somers Town Festival of Cultures

New Horizon’s young people replicated The Trafalgar Square plinth at the festival held on 10th July 2010 and entertained the crowds throughout the day. Fifteen minute performances of dance, music, song and poetry contributed to the fantastic local community festival.

We are delighted that our wonderful new building was selected yesterday for a 2010 RIBA Award.

Impact Award Winners!

Impact-awards

New Horizon Youth Centre staff picked up the prestigious 2010 Impact Award at the GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards at the Science Museum on 29th April.

The judges selected New Horizon Youth Centre from 280 applicants nationwide and commended the centre for its work with marginalised members of society and its ability to bring about lasting change in their lives. Click here to download a short overview of what we are about.

Kings Fund ‘Impact’ Award Winners

Following on from winning the Tackling Drugs Changing Lives - Home Office Award in December – We are now the proud winners of the King’s Fund ‘Impact’ Award for our contribution to community health.

The GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards have been running since 1997. This year they received over 350 applications from national and local charities. New Horizon Youth Centre were among the 20 organisations shortlisted and underwent an independant, indepth assessment which was reviewed by a judging panel.

The panel recognised our exellent work in this field and we were chosen as one of ten national WINNERS! Click here to find out more about the awards.
