Gardening at New Horizon Youth Centre

October 6th, 2009

New Horizon Youth Centre in conjunction with Camden origin time Banking Scheme have been running a Community Gardening project.
16 young people have taken part in the gardening project that took place on the Phoenix estate in Phoenix Street. Young people have worked very had to make a sustainable gardening area in the forecourt of the estate so residents can utilise the space.
The project was run for 7 weeks and great progress was made. Lots of clearing, digging, lifting, planting and we also introduced a compost bin!!
The aim of the project is to make the estate a nicer cleaner place for residents and to bridge the gap between new horizon and neighbouring streets Young people had the opportunity to meet and talk to local people. Our young people have the potential to go on to further education and to do more work in the community. One of our clients has started a gardening apprenticeship as a result of his time working in the community
